There’s no better time than summer to have a wander and appreciate London’s world famous markets. The Old Truman Brewery is home to five unique markets, each of which are bursting at the seams with cutting edge artists, designers, collectors, chefs & bakers, making them all destinations in their own right. Plan your next visit by getting to know where all the markets are located here.

THE TEA ROOMS //
SATURDAY - SUNDAY //

The Tea Rooms are a quirky and distinctive space, commonly known as the Aladdin’s cave of Brick Lane. DIscover beautiful home charms from furniture, collectables & antiques, ceramics, haberdashery, handmade clothing and silk cushion covers. Finish your hunt off with a cuppa’ and some baked goods. It’s a treasure seekers paradise!

The Nomad Barber made a name for himself back in June 2013, when he used his skills as an award-winning London barber to pay his way around the world. He flew to Athens to discover more about the Greek barbers who brought classic barbering to Europe. This trip initiated a pilgrimage spanning twelve months to uncover the secrets and history of barbering and male grooming worldwide. Armed with his newly acquired wealth of knowledge, Miguel Guiterrez has based himself in the heart of Brick Lane, Check out our exclusive interview with him here!

Sunday UpMarket started up in 2004 with 30 traders and 10 years on, Brick Lane’s largest market has become a platform for emerging and established designers, artists, and makers. It is also home to a wealth of organic cuisine, offering visitors from all over the globe the chance to experience the new charms of Brick Lane.

FEATURED TRADER // DISSIMILAR APPAREL //

Dissimilar Apparel is a London based sub-culture label. Their signature look of monochrome blocks of colour accompanied by the mixture of different materials such as leatherette and sueadette creates a look that encapsulates a high-end street wear lifestyle. The label has gone from strength to strength with a young celebrity following such as X-Factors Rough Copy and artist Iggy Azalea. They even had Leona Lewis pop into the Sunday Upmarket recently to visit this hot new brand!

BACKYARD MARKET //

The Backyard Market was the first market to open on Saturdays in the area back in 2006 and has made a name for itself as one of the brightest and freshest markets around. Expect to find kitsch goods alongside arts & crafts, young edgy designers and wholesome food, with a unique twist and community spirit!

Blow Ties is a vibrant new brand that is offering not only a piece of clothing, but attitude, statement and uniqueness. Blow Ties is a concept for those that dare to stand out and lead, for those not afraid to be different. Our celebrated Grade II listed, former Boiler House with its spectacular soaring ceilings and distinctive landmark Truman chimney, is now home to London's newest food hall. Over thirty stalls can be found in this bustling market place, featuring international culinary delights ranging from Japanese and Italian to Mediterranean and Caribbean-Asia fusion.

Vegetarian and Vegan Communities have grown massively in Europe, as has the popularity of meat substitutes. Gone are the days were all on offer to vegetarians was quorn and tofu! Meet Seitan, the Japanese wheat gluten, AKA ‘Mock Duck’, taking the Boiler House Food Hall by storm, all thanks to new food trader, Seitan’s Kitchen! Mock Duck pancake anyone?

VINTAGE MARKET //

Beginning life as a pop-up, this underground Vintage Market is now an East End gem housing vintage specialists from the UK and afar. It brings together a range of clothing and accessories for men and women from every decade as far back as the 1920’s, up to the now retro 1990’s.

Carrie Pinkus is the style-head behind the eclectic vintage label ‘House of Ivy’. A new addition to Brick Lanes Vintage Market, for 4 days of the week you can shop for the most exquisite vintage silk dresses, jewellery, designer vintage handbag, shoes, accessories and even vintage style homeware. All her pieces make wonderful gift ideas for loved ones plus there’s a gift wrapping service too.

VITAMINWATER SHINEBRIGHT STUDIO //
LOADING BAY GALLERY // THURS 31 JULY //

For seven weeks, glacéau vitaminwater will be hosting the #shinebrightstudio! What’s it all about you ask? Well, our Loading Bay Gallery will be transformed into a creative space to help you shine bright! It’s aimed at promoting young, creative talent and will play host to an array of shows, exhibitions and workshops from top names and hot newcomers like James Lavelle, Rob da Bank, Christopher Raeburn and more, all of which will be open to the public. There’s even a £3,500 scholarship up for grabs and a chance for you exhibit your work at the studio in its final week (submit via their website!) Oh, and did we mention the grand opening will feature a performance from Grammy winning singer, Foxes?!

ELY'S YARD // FRI 1 - SUN 3 AUG //

Lunch is on The Co-Operative Food as their exclusive pop-up restaurant makes a pit stop in Elys Yard to give you and up to three friends the chance of enjoying their summer menu for free! The touring eatery is offering halloumi burgers, Buffalo wings, pulled pork pile ups and all you have to do is tweet them with the hashtag and why you deserve to win. Your table is waiting and it’s just a Tweet away!

This month The Boiler House played host to the D&AD New Blood Awards, who every year celebrate and nurture outstanding work in design and advertising by awarding a selection of entrants the world recognised awards. The yellow, black and white pencils are symbols of the very highest creative achievement, giving the winners a kick start on their creative journeys.
